Subsurface Reservoir Flow Group

We study how fluids move through rock and soil beneath the surface, a question at the heart of carbon storage, underground hydrogen storage, groundwater management and energy production. Our focus is multiphase flow in porous media across scales, from rock cores to aquifers and reservoirs.

We develop analytical and numerical models, often combined with laboratory and field data, to characterize heterogeneous formations, upscale their properties for simulation, and interpret pumping tests and coreflooding experiments. Recent work also uses physics-informed machine learning.
